Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi Background
If you're new to the series, or found this sight by accident, then you may be wondering what precisely is all
the hype about?
Dragon Ball originated as an manga by Akira Toriyama in the eighties, right up there with Transformers. It
was then adapted into an anime by Toei Animation. This manga/anime is based off of a Chinese folktale (one of four
classical Chinese literatures from the time of the Ming Dynasty) called "The Journey to the West" or more properly
translated, "monkey".
It is a story based on a young boy with a monkey tail named Son Goku. He is an alien
(Saiyan, Saiya-Jin) sent as an infant to earth in order to kill all human life and conquer the planet to
sell to another extraterrestrial race but crashed and consequently lost his memory. A man by the name of
Gohan (Goku later names one of his son's after Gohan) found him and raised him as his grandson, teaching him
martial arts as he grew up.
One night, Goku transformed into an ape and killed his grandfather. From that point on, he survived by himself
until he met Bulma and began the quest for the seven Dragon Balls. (Goku already possessed the fourth Dragon Ball,
which is probably why Bulma enlisted his help.)
The original Dragon Ball series was expanded with Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT, into a few full feature
films, and as illustrated by this site--into video games!
